Watch Dr. Sion “Bill” Carter, USF Health Morsani College of Medicine Alumni Society Board president, interview Valerie Riddle MD ‘89 and Corey Howard MD ’90 as they share their recent accomplishments.

Valerie Riddle, MD '89 was recently appointed associate dean of alumni engagement for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. A dual-degree USF graduate, Dr. Riddle has spent 20 years as a physician executive. In her new role, Dr. Riddle is guiding the strategic direction for the MCOM Alumni Society to build connections with alumni and students.

Corey Howard, MD ’90 shares his recent accomplishments in the medical field and recent appointment as president of the Florida Medical Association. The Florida Medical Association (FMA) installed Dr. Howard as its 142nd President during the 2018 FMA Annual Meeting. Dr. Howard is the founder of Howard Health & Wellness, a private practice with a focus on lifestyle medicine in Naples, Florida.

The USF Morsani College of Medicine Alumni Society will host four-time New York Times bestselling author, Dr. David Perlmutter as part of its lecture series this spring. The event will include a panel-led discussion and book signing.


Dr. Perlmutter received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine where he was awarded the Leonard G. Rowntree Research Award. He serves as a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Archives of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and The Journal of Applied Nutrition. His books have been published in 34 languages and include the #1
New York Times bestseller Grain Brain, The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs and Sugar, with over 1 million copies in print. He is the editor of the upcoming collection The Microbiome and the Brain that will be authored by top experts in the field and will be published in 2019 by CRC Press. Dr. Perlmutter’s new book Brain Wash co-written with Austin
Perlmutter, MD will be published in January 2020.


The Spring Alumni lecture will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019 in the Lehigh Valley Health Network Auditorium.

Valerie Riddle MD '89, Associate Dean for Alumni Engagement

Dear Colleagues:


I am delighted to announce that one of our most hard-working alumni leaders, Valerie Riddle, MD ‘89, will be joining our faculty as associate dean of alumni engagement for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM). She will report directly to me in coordination with the USF Health Office of Development and Alumni Relations. In her new role, Dr. Riddle will help lead the strategic direction for the MCOM Alumni Society to grow connections between our alumni and students.

 

A dual-degree USF graduate, Dr. Riddle has spent 20 years as a physician executive, most recently leading her company, BioPharmAdvisors, in providing emerging biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies with clinical trial consulting services. She has been board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, and will hold a joint faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine. She has been an active volunteer leader on our MCOM Alumni Society Board, USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy, and the USF Foundation Board.

The Fall Alumni Lecture Series featured Dr. Dominic D'Agostino and Dr. David Diamond. Dr. D'Agostino presented Emerging Applications for Nutritional Ketosis. Dr. Diamond presented A Rigorous Assessment of the Putative Role of Cholesterol in Causing Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Rahul N. Mehra

Rahul N. Mehra, MD '92, CEO and Chief Medical Officer of MehraVista Health and board member for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine Alumni Society, is the 2018 recipient of the M.A. Bernstein Behavioral Health Award. The distinguished award will be presented by the Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, which serves the community by providing children, individuals and families in need with support to ensure their safety, economic stability, and well-being in the Tampa Bay area and other locations throughout Florida.


Dr. Mehra is a board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist by training. As a nationally recognized performance physician over the last thirty years, Dr. Mehra confidentially advises Major League Baseball, political leaders, physicians, c-suite executives, judges and lawyers on a variety of matters.


Dr. Mehra is dedicated to destigmatizing, raising awareness, and improving access for children and adults who are dealing with stressful life situations. His true passion is the emotional well-being of children, and he has worked and volunteered both in the local and statewide foster care system receiving numerous awards for his tireless efforts.

Each year, the Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services honors individual champions for advancements in Behavioral Health Services in the State of Florida. Previous recipients have included Representative Kathleen Peters and Bob Dillinger, Public Defender – Pinellas and Pasco Counties.


The award will be presented on Saturday, March 24, 6:30 p.m. at the Gulf Coast JFCS Annual Golf Like A Rock Star event located at TopGolf in Tampa, Florida.
