with your alma mater by mentoring one of our medical students through
our Scholarly Concentrations Program.
The USF Health Morsani College of Medicine Scholarly Concentrations Program (SCP) offers students the opportunity to develop scholarship in areas related to medicine that are not part of the core medical curriculum, including business, medical education, health disparities, health systems engineering, international medicine, law and medicine, medicine and gender, medical humanities, nutrition, public health and biomedical research.
Students enrolled in this program have self-identified and are highly motivated to engage in research and other scholarly activities.We believe you will find becoming a mentor to one of our students very rewarding and an excellent way for you to stay connected and informed about all of the exciting things occurring at MCOM.
Students typically identify a mentor and a project during their first year of medical school. This process includes writing a competitive research proposal for internal funding and, if available, extramural funding opportunities. Students commit to conducting research during the summer between year 1 and 2 and continue as time permits during the remainder of their tenure at MCOM. Students are encouraged to present their scholarly works orally or as poster presentations and publish their research. The minimum accepted form of publication is an abstract submitted, accepted and presented at the USF Health Annual Research Day.
