The University of South Florida College of Medicine Alumni Society was proud to present the 2013 Distinguished Physician Alumnus Award to Eduardo C. Gonzalez, M.D., Class of 1991 at the Commencement Dinner on May 9, 2013. Alicia Monroe, M.D., Vice Dean of Educational Affairs and Steven Specter M.D., Associate Dean of Student Affairs along with USF College of Medicine Alumni Society Board members: Diane Duffy, M.D. '89, President; Valerie Riddle, M.D. '89 Vice President; Aman Bhullar, M.D. '07, Chair of the Awards & Recognition Committee; Carolyn and Gregory Nicolosi, Ph.D.; Co-chairs of the Student Programming Committee; and Allan Goldman, M.D., Faculty Advisor; were among the faculty, students and honored guests that were present to recognize him.

Aman Bhullar, M.D. presented the award to Dr. Gonzalez noting that it is the highest honor the USF College of Medicine Alumni Society bestows to acknowledge the personal, professional and community contributions of its alumni. As a member of USF's medical community for almost 20 years, Dr. Gonzalez regularly demonstrated his dedication to the medical profession and his service to students, patients and the community at large. He is a proud USF alumnus who received both his M.D. and undergraduate degree at USF. He serves as the Director and Associate Professor of the Department of Family Medicine. He is a Family Physician with USF Physician's Group at University of South Florida Medical Clinics and is a Medical Staff Physician in the Department of Family Practice at Tampa General Hospital.

For more than 10 years, Dr. Gonzalez has also participated in Project World Health trips, taking students on educational mission trips to the Dominican Republic. In recent years, he has also served as the Co-medical Director of the BRIDGE Clinic. Over the years, he has been a strong and dedicated supporter, teacher and mentor of students. Those that have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Gonzalez, remark on his passion and dedication not only in his work with his students, but more importantly, with how he interacts with his patients.

"Whether it is clinical work in the office, or during the multiple volunteer hours he donates to working with the BRIDGE Healthcare Clinic and Project World Health international health mission trips, it is obvious how passionate he is about providing quality family medicine and primary care to all patients. Seeing how much his patients respect and cherish him as their doctor sets an invaluable example for all his students and coworkers at USF. Dr. Gonzalez exemplifies not only what it is to be an amazing physician, but more importantly he is an amazing person with a selfless and strong character.” – BRIDGE Clinic Student Directors

Dr. Gonzalez has provided service to USF as an advisor and leader on many committees and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. The Alumni Society was pleased to honor him. Dr. Gonzalez very humbly accepted the award and remarked that he expected all of the graduating class to be future recipients of the award.
