Class Notes 2000-2009

 

 

Class of 2003:


 

Jose Colon, MD ’03, is a sleep medicine specialist and medical director of sleep medicine and neuro-dynamics at Lee Memorial Health Systems in Fort Myers, FL.  Colon graduated from USF with dual degrees, an MD and an MPH in maternal and child health. He wrote the book, The Sleep Diet, A Novel Approach to Insomnia.  Dr. Colon also started Paradise Sleep, an organization that is dedicated to teaching the public about sleep health in a way that is fun - www.ParadiseSleep.com.

“Sleep deprivation is dangerous. I believe that when one is well rested they function better and with more compassion. I believe that this book can serve as the first step to allowing your mind to unplug to experience peaceful, restful sleep.” Jose Colon 

  

 

Class of 2005:

David E. Winchester, MD '05, was named the “Stop Heart Disease Researcher of the Year” by the Florida Heart Research Institute at the annual meeting of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (FCACC) at Disney’s Boardwalk Conference Center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida in August 2014.  Dr.  Winchester is an Assistant Professor in the University of Florida Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.  He has active research projects on the management of acute chest pain in the emergency department and appropriate use of nuclear stress testing.  A primary focus of Dr. Winchester’s research is on reducing unnecessary medical tests.  In addition to his impressive research accomplishments, Dr. Winchester is a dedicated teacher and mentor for residents, fellows, and medical students. Class of 2007:


Kurtis Mohr, MD ’07, went to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH where he completed a Family Medicine Residency program. He now works for Disney's Employee Health office, "The Center for Living Well," taking care of such characters as Belle, Gaston, Aladdin, Snow White, Mary Poppins, Prince Charming, Eric, Adam, and all the rest! Truly a Magical place to work! He also continue to play the violin in the local Central Florida Community Arts Orchestra.


Brian Palumbo, MD '07, is fellowship trained in adult reconstruction with a focus on diagnosing and treating hip and knee arthritis and its affects. Prior to joining Florida Orthopaedic Institute, Dr. Palumbo served as the chief administrative resident at the University of South Florida’s Orthopaedic Residency Program and also served in the Special Operations Command of the United States Air Force.

 

Class of 2008:


Krystyna Kolaczynski, MD ’08, is a Board certified neurologist; recently appointed as Associate Staff in Sleep Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

   

Class of 2009:

 

Ameigh Verderosa-Worley, MD '09, completed her residency training in OBGYN from Wake Forest in June 2014 and is now serving on Faculty there. In October 2014, she and her husband welcomed their first child, Landon, into their family!
