USF Health Morsani College of Medicine Alumni Society

 Board of Directors

 

PURPOSE:

The mission of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine Alumni Society is to support alumni and students in their roles as advocates, advisors, benefactors and educational partners. Board members work in collaboration with the USF Health Development and Alumni Relations staff to create lasting relationships among the Morsani College of Medicine alumni, students and residents and to advance the mission of the college.

 

TERM:

Directors are elected to serve a two-year commitment with eligibility of re-election for two additional consecutive terms.

 

DUTIES:

  • Help strengthen relationships between the College, its medical alumni, and its students through programs, activities and communications held throughout the year
  • Actively participate and encourage fellow alumni participation in initiatives such as the annual Medical College Alumni Reunion and all other activities and events sponsored by the Society and/or the College
  • Represent and speak for the organization at meetings and events
  • Regularly attend meetings of the Board of Directors and as an informed member, participate in shaping the plans, activities and programs
  • Create or disband committees of the Board of Directors
  • Actively participate in committee work. There are currently six Committees and others may develop as needed:

o   Alumni & Student Programming Committee – works on initiatives that focus on bringing students and alumni together throughout the academic year. This includes programs such as alumni hosting, shadowing, mentoring, alumni-led lecture series, etc. 

o   Awards & Recognition Committee – identifies alumni eligible for award nominations and appropriate opportunities to make formal awards. They also assist in establishing award criteria and works on the award selection process.  

o   Marketing & Communications Committee – provides input regarding publications, e-news, website, social media, and other alumni communications that are managed by the alumni office staff. They also assist in publicizing and recruiting alumni participation for events and activities.

o   Nominating Committee – develops policies for Board recruitment, receives and evaluates nominations and presents to the Board slate of new Directors and Officers for approval at the Annual Meeting.

o   Reunion Committee – milestone anniversary class leaders work together to encourage classmate attendance at the MCOM Alumni reunion. They are also involved in reunion planning and fundraising for class scholarships.

o   Residency Alumni Committee – works to connect current and former residents to provide increased value to both the alumni and the medical college through increased networking, educational and fundraising opportunities.

  • Nominate candidates for Officers to the Board of Directors
  • Assist in the orientation programs for new Directors and Officers of the Board
  • Collaborate with the College and the USF Health Development and Alumni Relations team on efforts to support the advancement and fundraising goals and activities of the College
  • Make an annual donation in support of a Medical College initiative (such as Scholarship, White Coat, Unrestricted gift, etc.) during your term of office. 


MEETING SCHEDULE:

Board meetings are typically held quarterly and may be conducted via conference call.   Meetings typically last about 2 hours.  

Committee meetings are currently held on an as-needed basis and typically last about 1 hour. 

 

TIME COMMITMENT:

On average the overall time commitment (including meeting attendance, follow-up assignments, committee work, etc.) is approximately 1 to 4 hours per month. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible for the Board of Directors, candidates must be graduates of the Morsani College of Medicine or have completed at least one year of graduate medical education at the College.

 

NOMINATION PROCEDURE:

1. Call for nominations will be made via the MCOM Alumni newsletter, the MCOM Alumni Society Web site, e-mail notices to MCOM Alumni Society with valid e-mail addresses on file, the MCOM Alumni Facebook page and e-mails to current faculty.

2. Nominations may be submitted by alumni, faculty, emeriti faculty, staff, friends, family and administrators of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. Self-nominations are encouraged.

3. The nomination process will take place through submissions made online, via e-mail or mail to the MCOM alumni director. All nomination packets must include the following:

· Completed nomination form below

· One or more letters of support explaining the alumni qualifications

· Resume or vita of nominee, recommended but not required

· Other details or pertinent data that might prove helpful in supporting the nomination

4. Completed nomination packets must be received by: Friday, January 26, 2018.

SELECTION PROCESS:

  1. The USF Health MCOM Alumni Society Nominating Committee will review all nominations.
  2. The Committee will present the slate of officers and directors for approval of candidates at the Annual Meeting in May 2018.
